wherein the secret is revealed

As many of you know, I got my MFA in August and landed an agent, Betsy Lerner, in late-September. In late October, my proposal went to 21 publishers in New York, and most of them turned it down (though I hear several of them were inspired to make a cake).

A few editors liked it. By the end, it came down to Simon & Schuster, their imprint called Free Press, and Random House (for Ballantine).

Last night, I spoke to S&S editor Denise Roy, and I got all goosebumpy.

This morning, the deal was made, and my book, Let Me Eat Cake: A Celebration of Flour, Sugar, Butter, Eggs, Vanilla, Baking Soda, and a Pinch of Salt, was given the go-ahead!

I am so excited to be working with this talented duo. I have not been so giggly in a long, long time.
