"Gothic," 1985, by Marcus Leatherdale

I am attracted to good photography for its ability to capture memories differently from the way we remember them.

But I am also attracted to photography that creates memories for me, that allows me the chance to fill in the narrative.

I first saw "Gothic" in the penthouse of a wealthy Milwaukee businessman, where we watched fireworks many moons ago. It hung in the hallway with not much fanfare or notice from anyone but me. I was drawn to it repeatedly, much the same way I am drawn, as a voyeur, to some very dark things.

Leatherdale's (whom I remembered as Leatherman, Leathervale, Leatherneck for far too long) New York work is mostly about fetishism; lots of bondage and nudity. But if you care to take a walk on the dark side, download a Prodigy song (choose demos, then download the bizarre "spacehopper" mp3). Then visit www.marcusleatherdale.com, or start right here with the best: l.

Enjoy. ?

I think it's stunning. I'll definitely check out the sites you suggested as well.
